As Wireshark, the plugin, Ubuntu, macOS, packages in Homebrew etcetera evolve over time, the blog will tend to become outdated. [Disclaimer stuff: this blog is not an evolving Git-like-repo, instead it’s in effect a snapshot detailing how in June 2022 the author was able to get Wireshark-with-SAP-Dissectors working in various OS and architecture scenarios.

And we look briefly into how to retrieve SAP data using the SAPDIAG protocol Dissector of the Wireshark plugin. We also show how to make sure that remote capture (via the sshdump tool) is available in all the Wireshark instances you install, and how you can remotely capture SAPGUI traffic. We show some effective ways to get a Wireshark+SAP-Dissectors instance up and running on Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 LTS for amd64 (x86_64) and arm64 (aarch64) architectures, as well as on an Intel-based (amd64) MacBook and on an M1 (arm64) MacBook.

Wireshark can also be used to analyse SAP-specific network traffic – such as for example SAPGUI traffic and RFC traffic – using a most excellent Wireshark plugin for SAP Dissectors, the code for which is maintained by SecureAuth on GitHub:

Open the generated solution with C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe ROOT.Wireshark is a popular and free open-source toolset for analysing network traffic: Generate the Microsoft Visual Studio solution with cmake -G "Visual Studio 10" /path/to/source/dir. Open the generated file with the Xcode application. Generate the Xcode project with cmake -G Xcode /path/to/source/dir. Generate a Ninja project with cmake -G Ninja /path/to/source/dir. To see the list of available generators do cmake -help.

cmake xcode

The available generators depend on the platform for which cmake have been build. CMake generatorsĬMake can generate, in addition to standard makefiles, specific projects for various integrated development environments (IDEs) such as Xcode, Eclipse, Visual Studio, etc.

It is recommended to delete the file CMakeCache.txt to start from a clean configuration. Variables in the CMake cache are ‘remembered’, so you do not need to type them if you execute cmake command again. $ cmake -DVARIABLE:TYPE=value path/to/source
